Interview with Zinnia Hope
Guys and Dolls Look whose here! Zinnia Hope has a great interview with us! Read on on what this author has to say!
1: Dahlia: Welcome to the blog Zinnia! Would you tell us how your writing career took off?
My very first publications were in small literary magazines and some YA publications. Golly, that's been ages ago. I sold my first story for an actual paycheck to a Christian magazine for young teens and still have a copy of the check framed and on my wall.
Now fast forward several years. One day I was emailing back and forth with a creative writing instructor who's a friend of mine. I was grumbling about how hard it is to crack professional short story markets. He suggested that I try writing for men's magazines. Although men's markets, ie Penthouse and and the like, are just as tough to crack, he insisted I had what it takes to write such material and succeed. He showed me a few examples of his published work in such markets, so I studied his stories and wrote my first one. I submitted the story and sold it on my first try. It debuted in Gent.
Later down the road, I began writing material for e-publishers while looking for my next literary agent.
2: Dahlia: Where were some of the first places that the readers could read your work?
Touch Magazine is the YA Christian Mag I mentioned earlier, then there were several tiny publications such as Moxie Magazine, DeadMule.com, etc. These were followed by selling work to Gent and Hustler's Busty Beauties when I managed to get into the pro men's mags. I began selling to a few pro online markets too such as Would That It Were.com (closed now) which is historical sci-fi.
3: Dahlia: You have a novel coming soon called “Ruby, The White King and Marilyn Monroe.” The Title alone has caught my interest. Tell us more about it?
That's a tentative title right now. It's a wild romp from the Midwest to Key West. A woman, Ruby, picks up a hitchhiker, who turns out to be nothing but trouble. Throw in weird visions, a dog who thinks he's Ruby's spirit guide, a sexy guy who curls Ruby's toes, a biker couple, and one mishap after another as Ruby tries to solve the secret of her visions.
4: Dahlia: Do you have any new releases we should know about and where can we find them?
The Red Storm is a romantic sci-fi mystery that recently debuted April 28th at Lavender Isis Press. http://lavenderisis.com/theredstormbuy.html
5: Dahlia: Zinnia can you tell us what you are working on now?
Well, I have about 20K words left to do on my Ruby/White King novel. I'm also writing something targeted for Ellora's Cave called The Darkness of Sable, which is a paranormal thriller and involves an IR romance. I have a rough outline for Thorn of Ebon that's book II of The Daughter's of Trinity Series at Freya's Bower. I'm also finishing up some short stories for a collection that is under consideration.
6: Dahlia: Tell us what books you currently have out for the readers to enjoy?
At Freya's Bower, there are four titles: Free Spirits, The Sexual Science of Witchery, Conspiracy of Angels, and Honeysuckle and Wild Roses. I have Visiting Donna Dee at Amira Press.com and The Red Storm at Lavenderisis.com.
7: Dahlia: What are some of the goals you have set for yourself in your writing career?
To finish all my WIPs, lol!
8: Dahlia: Is there any scenes in your books that you find difficult to write?
Yes, the graphic sex scenes in my sizzling titles are tough to write because they bore me to death. I've been writing sex fiction for so long that I just cringe if I have to write such a scene. There are only so many ways a writer can present a sex scene without it becoming redundant and finding ways to present them in an erotic way without it coming across as purple prose or disgusting is tricky to do at times.
9: Dahlia: Behind the scenes Zinnia when the computer is off and your day is done. What would we find you doing?
Enjoying my husband's company and playing with our toddler.
10: Dahlia: Your love scenes are scorching Zinnia! Where do you pull the inspiration for that extra “oomph!” in your books
I try to imagine what women dream about in a lover as in actual day dreams that stretch the boundaries a little bit, then I try to portray them in a believable fashion.
11: Dahlia: What do you think is the sexiest spot on a man’s body? ☺
Actually, there are two things about a man's body I find sexy. A man with wide shoulders and big, rough hands that show he works and can be gentle too.
12: Dahlia: If you could have one hot guy for a day to do your bidding who would it be and what will he be doing?
John Cena from WWE. I'd just like to sit and talk with him. Not only is he easy on the eyes, he strikes me as mischievous and witty. Now if I wasn't happily married, I could think of many things for him to do...
13: Dahlia: Who are some of your favorite writers? Do you find it hard to get personal time for reading between your writing schedule?
I love Phillipa Gregory's work, Tess Gerritsen, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Stephen King and many others. I'm super picky about material, so if it doesn't get my attention within the first two chapters, the book hits the give-away pile or the PDF is shut down for good. And yes, it's very difficult for me to find personal reading time. I've been on a short break since finishing The Red Storm, so I've been reading material that authors have asked me to review or crit.
14: Dahlia: Zinnia tell us three things that you could not live without?
My family, writing, and coffee.
15: Dahlia: Does your family read and like your books? How do they feel about your writing career?
My father-in-law is probably my biggest fan. He's an avid reader. My husband and kids support my writing and play a big role in keeping my spirit high so I don't get fed up with the bad aspects of publishing and toss in the towel.
16: Dahlia. Zinnia tell us where we could find out more about, any contest you have going on and your books.
One is on my contest page at my website www.zinniahope.com and deals with my novel Conspiracy of Angels. This novel comes out in print May 30th, which is when I'll announce the winner. The winner of that one will receive a goodie basket/bag. The other is at Lavender Isis press http://lavenderisis.com/theredstormbuy.html and runs until May 15th. The winner of that one will receive a piece of The Red Storm's mythology. LOL, actually it's a sterling silver chain and pendant with a 1-carat garnet set in it. It's worth approximately $80 and symbolizes the bloodgem pendant that the hero gives my heroine, Jordanne.
That guys and dolls was the author of some of the most heat filled books I have ever read. Zinnia Hope will sizzle your mind and fill your imagination with her books.!
Until next week luvvies!
